The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) produced this guide for individuals or organizations providing formal or informal support to older adults in a post-disaster setting. This document contains recommendations for engaging older adults in the aftermath of a disaster and identifying signs of distress and increased risk factors , such as the presence of a chronic condition or disability. A list of related resources and a tip sheet for older adults on managing stress after a disaster are also included.
